چکیده مقاله:

Taking into consideration that frequency of earthquakes is high in Iran, and that presently attempts are done knowingly to fortify the buildings against earthquake, the utilization of light and flexible materials is one of the most important solutions that must be taken into construction operation. Some factors such as four different climatic conditions with special lifestyles resulting from them affect the method of fortification of buildings and the type of building materials. A research conducted on traditional building materials in Iran proved that bamboo is one of the most efficient and economic materials for constructing light and at the same time resistant buildings against earthquake. The reasons are that firstly quality bamboo can be found in nature and as a result, it is economic, and secondly bamboo is efficient for building due to its high resistance and good engineering properties. With regard to the effect of the climatic condition on the strength of bamboo and the variety of climatic conditions in Iran, the present paper aims at reaching the best protective methods for utilization of bamboo after analyzing the traditional patterns of any region. Finally with regard to different capacities of this material for choosing different construction forms, suggestions can be made for designing optimum bamboo structure for every climatic condition.
