AN INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA PLATFORM FOR POWER PLANT MAINTENANCE TRAINING

Recent advances in power plant technology coupled with the need for improving cost/performance of plant operation, have resulted in an ever increasing need for improving quality of maintenance training. Conventional. methods of training require a large number of dedicated personnel, high cost of re-training and maintaining consistent results. This is changing as more and more training procedures are being conducted on interactive multimedia based learning systems. These systems are becoming affordable as the cost/performance and ease of use of desktop computers improve. Key to successful interactive training systems is how to design and apply the appropriate hardware and software as well as maintaining flexibility and ease of use of system. This paper describes an interactive multimedia platform for power plant maintenance training. Elements of the system as well as benefits over conventional systems is discussed. Finally, the paper illustrates on step-by-step development of such a system in practice.
