Natural disaster Management in Iran the need for a new Structure

Iran is a disaster-prone country. rapid rate of population growth, over urbanization and environmental vulnerability of structures and settlements. No significant and effective policy has, however, been developed mitigate disaster risks in the countery. During the last decade of the 20th century, which was declared as the International Decade for Natural disaster Reduction, extensive efforts were made at various levels to tackle this problem. In this article the activities of the decade in Iran will be reviewed, analyzed and evaluated against certain criteria. A proposed structure for the Natural Disaster Management has been designed through which it is expected to improve the condition and overcomes some of the existing problems and shortcomings. The plan is considered as the most significant factor of Natural Disaster Management activities in Iran. Key words: Disaster Management , Natural Disaster ,Natural hazards , Iran
