Global environmental concerns and the escala ng demand for energy, coupled with steady progress in renewable energy technologies, are opening up new opportuni es for u liza on of renewable energy resources. Solar energy is the most abundant, inexhaus ble and clean of all the renewable energy resources ll date. The power from sun intercepted by the earth is about 1.8×1011 MW, which is many mes larger than the present rate of all the energy consump on.Photovoltaic technology is one of the finest ways to harness the solar power. This paper reviews the photovoltaic technology, its power genera ng capability, its environmental aspect coupled with a variety of its applica ons. The different exis ng performance and reliability evalua on models, sizing and control, grid connec on and distribu on have also been discussed.
