A Bilingual Proverb-Integrated Model for Analyzing Interlingual and Intralingual Errors in Persian EFL Learners

This study proposes a bilingual proverb-integrated model for analyzing interlingual and intralingual errors produced by Persian EFL learners. By incorporating Persian proverbs, their literal English translations, and their natural English equivalents, the model provides a culturally grounded framework for interpreting learner errors. Interlingual errors are examined as instances of L۱ transfer influenced by deeply rooted linguistic habits, while intralingual errors are interpreted as developmental outcomes of incomplete rule acquisition within English. The integration of proverbs offers a unique analytical lens that connects linguistic behavior with cultural cognition, revealing how cultural wisdom reflects and explains error patterns. A structured table is presented to map each proverb to specific learner errors, demonstrating the pedagogical value of culturally informed error analysis. The findings highlight the potential of proverb-based models to enrich linguistic research and enhance EFL instruction for Persian learners.
