چکیده مقاله:

Arid regions face increasing challenges related to water scarcity, climate change, urban growth, and limited economic opportunities. This conceptual study proposes a framework for sustainable greenhouse cities that integrates climate-responsive residential architecture, household-scale production, cooperative economic systems, and urban self-sufficiency. The proposed model introduces greenhouse terraces as multifunctional spaces within family housing units, providing private green areas while supporting the cultivation of ornamental plants and selected high-value horticultural products. The framework also incorporates smart drip irrigation, passive environmental design, and efficient resource management to improve water-use efficiency and reduce maintenance requirements. At the urban scale, cooperative centers support seedling production, quality control, technical training, value-added processing, and collective marketing, while an Urban Self-Sufficiency Fund is conceptually proposed to contribute to infrastructure maintenance and long-term financial sustainability. In addition, an adaptive housing allocation model based on household economic capacity is presented as a conceptual mechanism for improving housing accessibility while supporting urban development. The proposed greenhouse city is intended as a comprehensive urban system rather than an agricultural settlement and provides a foundation for future interdisciplinary feasibility studies in architecture, urban planning, environmental management, and sustainable development.
