چکیده مقاله:
Supply chains increasingly face a tension between the pursuit of efficiency and the need for resilience. Efficiency-oriented approaches emphasize cost reduction, resource optimization, waste elimination, and operational performance, whereas resilience-oriented approaches focus on adaptation, recovery, flexibility, and continuity under uncertain and disruptive conditions. This conceptual paper aims to reassess the relationship between efficiency and resilience in supply chain management by examining their theoretical foundations, underlying assumptions, and potential integration. Using a conceptual research approach, the study draws on perspectives from operations management, organizational theory, supply chain resilience, and complex adaptive systems to analyze the differences and connections between these two management paradigms. The findings indicate that the perceived conflict between efficiency and resilience does not necessarily result from inherent incompatibility but from differences in assumptions regarding environmental stability, resource allocation, decision-making horizons, and organizational objectives. The study proposes a conceptual framework in which efficiency and resilience are viewed as complementary supply chain capabilities. Their relative importance depends on contextual conditions, uncertainty levels, disruption characteristics, and managerial decisions. The paper concludes that contemporary supply chains require a dynamic balance between optimization and adaptation rather than a choice between efficiency and resilience.
