چکیده مقاله:

Geriatric wound infections represent a significant clinical challenge because age-related physiological changes, chronic diseases, impaired immunity, reduced circulation, and delayed tissue regeneration can interfere with normal wound healing. This article examines the potential of integrating smart technologies and biotechnological therapeutics to improve the management of wound infections among older adults in medical and nursing clinical settings. A qualitative, analytical, and library-based approach was used to examine scientific literature concerning smart wound technologies, wearable biosensors, artificial intelligence, advanced biomaterials, intelligent wound dressings, and targeted therapeutic delivery. The findings indicate that smart technologies can strengthen wound assessment by enabling continuous or repeated monitoring of important parameters such as temperature, pH, moisture, oxygenation, and infection-related changes. Artificial intelligence can further support interpretation of complex wound data and facilitate more personalized clinical decision-making. In parallel, biotechnological therapeutics and advanced biomaterials can provide antimicrobial activity, controlled drug delivery, tissue-supportive functions, and responsive treatment. The integration of these approaches with professional medical and nursing care may facilitate earlier infection detection, improve treatment monitoring, reduce unnecessary wound manipulation, and support individualized interventions. Nevertheless, clinical validation, patient safety, technological reliability, cost, data security, and professional training remain important challenges. Overall, synergistic integration of smart technologies and biotechnology offers a promising framework for more precise, responsive, and patient-centered geriatric wound infection management.
