چکیده مقاله:

This interdisciplinary study investigates the representation of elite women in three cornerstone Iranian textual traditions—the Shahnameh (New Persian), Vis o Ramin (New Persian), and the Bundahishn (Middle Persian/Pahlavi)—and measures correspondence between literary portrayals and archaeological evidence from the Median to Sasanian periods (c. ۷۲۸ BCE – ۶۵۱ CE). Employing a qualitative descriptive analytical approach integrating Critical Discourse Analysis, Representation Theory, Discourse Theory, and materialist feminist critique, five indices—preservation of name, political role, economic role, religious ritual role, and military role—were scored to construct the Composite Memory Retention Index (CMRI). Applied to ۱۰ historically attested elite women meeting strict criteria of independent material evidence and mention in at least two written sources, findings reveal six primary roles and eight stable archetypes. Average preservation rates range from ۷۵% to ۹۲% for this elite sample. However, the study issues a critical caveat: the CMRI reflects maximum survival for aristocratic women; a random demographic sample would yield a preservation rate below ۱۵%, underscoring the class filtering nature of cultural memory. Persian literature functioned as an ideologically motivated filter, preserving the structural core of elite female agency across major ruptures while systematically erasing non aristocratic voices.
