چکیده مقاله:

Iran, located on the seismically active Alpine-Himalayan belt, has historically faced devastating earthquakes causing significant human, social, and economic damages, and it is expected to continue facing this persistent natural hazard. This study employs a library-based and analytical approach, emphasizing the integral role of geography education, to explore scientific and practical strategies for improving earthquake resilience in Iranian society. Initially, the paper reviews the current seismicity status of Iran, highlighting the vulnerable geographical locations of densely populated areas and the history of destructive events, thereby analyzing the considerable vulnerability of population and infrastructure. Subsequently, the concept of "resilience" is examined, delineating its structural, social, and institutional dimensions, and stressing the critical importance of comprehensive societal preparedness for earthquake response. This study elucidates the profound impact of geography education in raising awareness and practical skills among students, families, and communities. Findings indicate that enhancing geographic literacy not only deepens students' understanding of earthquake fundamentals, including earth structure, fault systems, and hazard assessment, but also fosters self-protective behaviors, strengthens community participation, and serves as a behavioral model for other family and community members. Furthermore, the article proposes strategic recommendations such as revising curricula, expanding practical education, investing in advanced technologies like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and simulation tools, empowering educators, and institutionalizing a safety culture within schools. It underscores the necessity of establishing geography education as a foundational pillar for effective risk management and sustainable development in Iran.
