چکیده مقاله:

The global shift towards low-carbon energy systems poses unprecedented challenges and unparalleled opportunities for Chemical Engineering as a discipline. With countries pledging and working towards Net Zero targets and adopting highly ambitious decarbonisation pathways, chemical engineers are increasingly being entrusted with sustainable development mandates in energy production, storage, and consumption. Against this backdrop, Chemical Engineering education needs a paradigm shift from its conventional fossil-fuel-based foundations and a more comprehensive integration of the underlying principles of sustainability and sustainable development. This article is an analysis of the current status, transformation imperatives, educational strategies, and reforms necessary for transforming Chemical Engineering education for the energy transition. It is based on global trends, educational theories, and university reforms in South African universities such as UKZN, UCT, Wits, and Stellenbosch, and it includes an exhaustive analysis of recent literature, policies, and best practices.
