چکیده مقاله:

Ocular drug delivery has limited bioavailability due to anatomical barriers and the impermeability of ocular tissue. As a result, the treatment process requires repeated doses of the drug. In recent years, biocompatible and biodegradable chitosan nanoparticles have increased the drug's persistence and penetration time and are of great importance as new drug delivery platforms. Encapsulation of drugs such as dexamethasone, cyclosporine and other drugs in these nanoparticles improves the solubility and efficacy of the drug. Natural polymers such as alginate, hyaluronic acid, gelatin, cellulose and chitosan derivatives have been investigated as complements and alternatives to chitosan. Emerging perspectives include the development of multifunctional and theranostic nanoparticles with imaging capabilities, high-precision targeting and response-driven release, providing new opportunities for improving the long-term-management of ocular diseases.
