چکیده مقاله:

This study investigates the effect of hot extrusion on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and high-cycle fatigue (HCF) behavior of the biodegradable Mg-۱Zn-۰.۲Ca alloy for orthopedic applications. Results demonstrate that a higher extrusion reduction ratio significantly refines the grain structure. This refinement improves fatigue strength, with a value of ۷۸ MPa at ۱۰۷ cycles achieved after ۹۹% area reduction. Moreover, UTS rises markedly from ۱۰۵ MPa in the as-cast condition to ۲۲۰ MPa in the ۸۲% hot-extruded sample. Fractographic revealed changes in fatigue striations, confirming the microstructural influence on the HCF mechanism. Hot extrusion significantly enhances the fatigue behavior of as-cast material and it thus confirmed as a critical process for enhancing the alloy's performance.
