چکیده مقاله:

Microbial corrosion, or microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC), is a complex form of material degradation occurring in water-containing systems such as pipelines, cooling systems, storage tanks, and aviation fuels. It results from the activity of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms that produce corrosive metabolites, including organic acids and gases, which accelerate pitting and alter surface chemistry. MIC affects metals such as carbon steel, copper alloys, stainless steel, and aluminum. Accurate diagnosis requires morphological examination, analysis of corrosion products, microbial characterization, and environmental assessment. Effective control relies on biocides, environmental management, nutrient reduction, and improved system design to mitigate microbial activity.
