چکیده مقاله:

In recent decades, increasing environmental awareness has encouraged companies to adopt sustainable approaches and reuse industrial waste. Considering the high surface activity of iron oxide nanoparticles, they can be effectively applied for the adsorption of heavy metals. In this study, iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized from mill scale waste obtained during hot rolling of steel slabs through a sol-gel process. The X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) results confirm that the nanoparticles are in the size range of ۲۰ to ۳۰ nanometers. BET analysis indicated a surface area of ۳۵۲ m۲/g with active hydroxyl groups. Adsorption experiments demonstrated that with a dosage of ۰.۳۵ g of iron oxide nanoparticles in ۱۰ mL of wastewater, up to ۹۰% of Pb(II) and Cr(VI) could be removed. These results highlight the potential of mill scale waste as a sustainable source for producing nanostructured adsorbents.
