Strategic Development of the Turkmen Horse Industry Through SWOT and Porter's Five Forces Analysis: A Sustainable Framework for Global Competitiveness

The Turkmen horse represents one of the world's oldest and most distinguished equine breeds, embodying centuries of cultural heritage, genetic excellence, and historical significance. Despite its exceptional qualities, the Turkmen horse industry faces increasing challenges related to globalization, fragmented breeding systems, inadequate international branding, declining investment, and limited integration with modern technologies. This study develops a comprehensive strategic framework for enhancing the global competitiveness and long-term sustainability of the Turkmen horse industry by integrating SWOT analysis and Porter's Five Forces model.A qualitative analytical methodology was employed using documentary analysis, comparative strategic assessment, expert knowledge synthesis, and international benchmarking. Internal strengths and weaknesses were evaluated alongside external opportunities and threats to identify strategic priorities. Subsequently, Porter's Five Forces were applied to assess the competitive dynamics influencing the industry's future development.The findings reveal that the Turkmen horse possesses significant competitive advantages derived from its unique genetic heritage, cultural identity, adaptability, endurance, and growing international recognition. However, weaknesses including fragmented governance, insufficient scientific breeding programs, limited digital infrastructure, inadequate marketing, and constrained financial investment reduce its competitive potential. Strategic opportunities include genetic conservation, equestrian tourism, digital transformation, international collaborations, sustainable breeding systems, and emerging premium equine markets. External threats comprise climate change, genetic erosion, increasing competition from internationally commercialized breeds, economic instability, and biosecurity risks.The integrated strategic framework demonstrates that sustainable competitiveness requires coordinated national policies, scientific breeding management, international branding, digital traceability systems, expanded research collaboration, and investment in innovation. The study proposes practical policy recommendations that may support breeders, policymakers, researchers, and industry stakeholders in preserving the genetic authenticity of the Turkmen horse while improving its international market position.
