Seismic Anisotropy of the Oceanic Upper Crust of Alborz

This study analyzes seismic anisotropy in northern Iran using local earthquake data (ML > ۳) recorded from ۲۰۱۸ to ۲۰۲۰. Using both permanent and temporary stations, we determined shear-wave splitting parameters (φ, St) and performed inversion modeling to estimate shear-wave velocity profiles. Our findings indicate a significant velocity gradient from the Caspian Sea toward the Alborz Mountains. Discrepancies with earlier studies are discussed in the context of the region's sedimentary characteristics, recent seismic activity, and enhanced station coverage.
