چکیده مقاله:
Intermittent reinforcement is a behavioral principle well-documented in psychology and neuroscience for its role in shaping addictive behaviors. In romantic relationships, intermittent reinforcement manifests through unpredictable emotional responses, affection, or attention from a partner, leading to heightened emotional dependency and compulsive attachment. This phenomenon is closely linked with the dopaminergic reward system, which governs the brain’s processing of pleasure, motivation, and reward anticipation. Through repeated exposure to unpredictable reinforcement, individuals experience heightened dopamine release during moments of reward, followed by withdrawal-like states during the absence of reinforcement, resulting in emotional craving akin to substance addiction. Such mechanisms can exacerbate relationship instability, particularly in long-term partnerships characterized by conflict, inconsistent communication, or emotional neglect. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of intermittent reinforcement in romantic contexts, integrating behavioral theories, neurobiological insights, and empirical studies to examine its contribution to emotional addiction. Moreover, the research explores implications for marital stability, emotional well-being, and intervention strategies in couples therapy. By synthesizing findings from psychology, neurobiology, and counseling research, this study offers a multidimensional perspective on why certain individuals remain entangled in harmful or unpredictable relationships. The results underscore the importance of emotional awareness, consistent communication, and secure attachment in mitigating the adverse effects of intermittent reinforcement. This work contributes to both theoretical understanding and practical applications, providing a foundation for future research and therapeutic interventions targeting emotional addiction in romantic relationships.
