چکیده مقاله:

The Qajar period (۱۷۸۹-۱۹۲۵) represents a significant era in Iranian visual culture, where inscriptions and decorative motifs played a pivotal role in shaping the architectural and artistic identity of cities. Zanjan, with its rich urban heritage, provides a unique case for examining the integration of calligraphic inscriptions and ornamental patterns into public spaces such as panels and gateways. This study aims to investigate the influence of Qajar decorative elements on the visual language of urban façades in Zanjan. Employing a descriptive-analytical method, the research combines historical documentation with field observation to identify stylistic continuities and transformations. The findings highlight the prominent use of calligraphy, geometric arrangements, and floral arabesques in Qajar-era inscriptions, which not only served religious and commemorative functions but also reinforced aesthetic values and collective memory within the city. Moreover, the adaptation of these motifs in modern urban signboards and entrance designs demonstrates their ongoing relevance in defining local identity. The results suggest that Qajar decorative traditions have left a lasting imprint on the visual character of Zanjan's urban landscape, bridging historical heritage with contemporary artistic expression.
