چکیده مقاله:

Rapid urbanization and climate change have become serious challenges for urban environments in the ۲۱st century. These challenges have led to environmental degradation and reduced quality of urban life, and have increased the need to pay attention to sustainable design. In this regard, geomorphology, as a science that studies the geological characteristics and processes of the earth's surface, can play a key role in the sustainable design of urban environments. This paper examines the challenges and opportunities of geomorphology in the sustainable design of urban environments, with a special focus on the city of Tabriz. The main purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the geomorphological characteristics of Tabriz and their impact on sustainable urban design, as well as to investigate the challenges in this field. The present study is designed in a descriptive-analytical manner and aims to describe and analyze the current status of the relationships between geomorphological variables and sustainable urban design in Tabriz. The statistical population includes ۱۰۰ residents and ۳۰ experts in the field of urban design and geomorphology. Semi-structured interviews are collected. To ensure the validity and reliability of the instruments, the opinions of experts are reviewed and Cronbach's alpha test is performed. The collected data will be analyzed using SPSS and AMOS software, and correlation and regression tests will be used to investigate the relationships between variables. This approach helps to identify challenges and opportunities in sustainable urban design. The findings of the research show that Tabriz faces significant challenges such as natural hazards such as earthquakes and floods. Also, uncontrolled urban expansion and environmental degradation were identified as the main problems in this city. At the same time, geomorphological potentials such as the existence of hills and valleys can help in sustainable design and management of water resources. The results of the research emphasize the necessity of using geomorphological knowledge in urban planning. Design based on geomorphological features can help improve the sustainability of urban environments. Also, strengthening public education and awareness about environmental impacts and using new design methods can help reduce the existing problems. Finally, this research emphasizes the need for cooperation between different experts and the use of interdisciplinary knowledge in the sustainable design of urban environments. It is suggested that urban planners in Tabriz should look for solutions to create sustainable cities that are resistant to environmental challenges.
