Rapid urbanization and increasing energy demand in megacities, particularly in developing countries, have placed immense pressure on aging and centralized energy infrastructure. Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) as an innovative nuclear energy technology offer significant potential for transforming urban energy supply patterns. This paper aims to investigate the capacities, requirements, and challenges of integrating SMRs into urban distributed generation systems. Using a descriptive-analytical method and drawing on library resources and global experiences, the study finds that SMRS' unique features including small size, passive safety systems, modular construction, and multiple applications-make them an attractive option for deployment near consumption centers. However, successful integration requires revising legal frameworks, developing innovative financing models, community participation, and attention to energy justice. The conceptual model presented in this research can provide a framework for urban planners and energy policymakers in the transition to decentralized and sustainable energy systems.
