Mai Pen Rai Culture for Efficient Urban Management

The phenomenon of "Mai Pen Rai" as one of the fundamental concepts in Thai culture, has a profound impact on the lifestyle, social interactions, and management processes in the metropolis of Bangkok. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, this article explores the cultural roots of this concept in Buddhist teachings and Thailand's social structure, while examining its dual consequences in the realm of urban management. A review of the literature reveals a significant research gap in linking cultural, educational, and urban management studies. The findings indicate that although "Mai Pen Rai" acts as a factor for resilience and tension reduction at the individual level, its infiltration into management structures has created a cycle of indifference and a lack of accountability. Moving beyond merely critical approaches, the article presents practical, non-political solutions primarily focused on the educational system and school curricula. These solutions aim to empower the next generation to distinguish between "individual tolerance" and "civic advocacy."
