Design Mastery and Identity under AI: Iran and Southeast Asia

This study examines aesthetic sustainability in contemporary Iranian interior architecture through the lens of color, light, and materiality, situating findings within a comparative Southeast Asian framework. Moving beyond nostalgic replication, it emphasizes contemporary translation of cultural memory, preserving spatial identity through essence rather than inherited forms. Observations show hybrid compositions combining local materials with modern spatial systems to enhance sensory experience. Comparisons with Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia reveal similar pressures from globalized aesthetics and AI-driven visual trends, accelerating stylistic convergence and weakening local identity markers. Southeast Asian interiors retain material warmth through vernacular palettes, whereas Iranian spaces face a decline in chromatic heritage due to neutral industrial aesthetics. A culturally adaptive model is proposed for aesthetic sustainability, integrating Persian chromatic cues, vernacular textures, and strategic spatial contrasts as a systemic evolution of identity within AI-mediated design environments.
