Role of Artificial Intelligence in Diagnosing Psychological Disorders: A Systematic Review of Advances, Challenges, and Future Prospects

In today's world, artificial intelligence is rapidly advancing and expanding in various fields, including mental health and psychology. The present article provides a review of the developments, applications, and potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in the diagnosis of psychological disorders. Given the complexity and diversity of these disorders, as well as the inherent challenges of traditional diagnostic methods, artificial intelligence offers unique opportunities to improve the accuracy, objectivity, and efficiency of diagnostic processes. Review findings indicate that AI is capable of identifying complex patterns and hidden biomarkers across various types of data, which can assist in differential diagnosis and in predicting disease trajectories in disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and autism. However, the widespread implementation of AI in this field faces significant challenges, including ethical issues and the protection of patient privacy, potential biases in data and algorithms, the need for large volumes of high-quality data, limited generalizability of models, and difficulties related to interpretability (lack of transparency) of Al-driven decisions. Therefore, artificial intelligence represents a powerful and rapidly evolving tool with the potential to transform the diagnosis of psychological disorders and move toward more precise and personalized medicine; however, ethical and cultural frameworks, expert supervision, and the establishment of appropriate regulatory standards must be taken into consideration.
