چکیده مقاله:

The current international educational trends advocate teaching ۲۱st-century thinking skills, such as analytical and evaluative skills, for the digital era. Many scholars have investigated different forms of such higher-order thinking skills in Second Language (L۲) classes. Despite these efforts, many untouched areas still persist. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential influence of Media Literacy (ML) instruction on the reflective thinking of undergraduates majoring in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) at a public university in Southern Iran. Using a pre-experimental design, the participants (N=۲۰) were an intact BA class who were taught ML as part of their program. The intervention, conducted over one academic semester, covered ML concepts, theories, and reflective practice. At the end of the semester, participants responded to written analytical questions designed to elicit logical reflections. Findings from the open-ended questions indicated that the students developed a more analytical view for interpreting media messages in the EFL context. These findings can inform future teacher training courses and task design in EFL education.
