چکیده مقاله:

The escalating contamination of global water resources by persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals necessitates the development of advanced, high-efficiency, and sustainable remediation technologies. Nanotechnology, particularly the application of Quantum Dots (QDs), has emerged as a transformative frontier in this domain. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the pivotal role of QDs in water purification, emphasizing their unique size-tunable optical properties and high surface-to-volume ratios. We explore the fundamental mechanisms of QD-based photo-catalysis, highlighting the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) for the complete mineralization of diverse aquatic contaminants. Furthermore, the transition toward "green" synthesis (utilizing biomass-derived precursors such as Carbon Quantum Dots (CQDs)) is discussed as a vital strategy to mitigate toxicity and enhance environmental compatibility. While challenges related to the recovery, long-term stability, and large-scale implementation of these zero-dimensional materials remain, recent advancements in immobilization and hybrid Nano-composites offer promising solutions. This study concludes that the integration of green-synthesized QDs into water treatment infrastructure is a crucial step toward achieving global water security and fostering a sustainable, eco-friendly future.
