The Effective Role of Smart Skills in Empowering Human Resources for the Development of Green Tourism

Empowering human resources requires possessing knowledge, skills, motivation, and both mental and physical capabilities. One of the most important characteristics of empowered human resources is having technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills aligned with the demands of the workplace. Smart tourism refers to the increasing reliance of tourism destinations and industry stakeholders on information and communication technologies, which, through data analysis and the conversion of data into valuable insights, enable informed decision-making and optimal resource management. Therefore, the main research question of the present study is how and to what extent smart skills can contribute to empowering human resources in the tourism industry, thereby facilitating the realization of green tourism and sustainable development. Methodologically, the study is descriptive-analytical, and in terms of purpose, it is applied. SPSS software was used for data analysis. To examine the dependent variable (human resource empowerment) and the independent variable (smart skills), ۲۰ items were designed under two variables and collected via an electronic questionnaire completed by tourism faculty members using a five-point Likert scale. This study employed a one-sample t-test to assess the mean indices of the effective role of smart skills in human resource empowerment for green tourism development, Pearson correlation analysis to examine the relationships between variables, and regression analysis to determine the impact of smart skills on human resource empowerment for green tourism development. The findings revealed a very strong relationship between smart skills and human resource empowerment for green tourism development, indicating that improvements in smart skills lead to greater empowerment of human resources in advancing green tourism.
