Evaluating the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Critical Media Literacy Education: Analyzing Training in Hidden Bias Detection, News Accuracy Evaluation, and Content Generation Algorithm Review

This study investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced critical media literacy training on English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners' abilities to identify implicit biases, assess news accuracy, and critically analyze AI-generated digital content. Employing a mixed methods design, the research integrates quantitative assessments and qualitative interviews to provide a comprehensive evaluation of a six-week intervention combining instructor-led instruction with AI-based analytical tools. Results demonstrate significant improvements in bias detection and news accuracy evaluation, accompanied by increased learner motivation and critical awareness. However, changes in algorithmic awareness were limited, suggesting a need for focused instructional strategies. These findings highlight AI's pedagogical potential in fostering critical media literacy within EFL contexts and underscore the importance of integrating AI literacy into language education curricula. Implications for theory, practice, and future research directions are discussed.
