چکیده مقاله:

Background: Echinococcosis, a parasitic infection caused by Echinococcus tapeworms, can cause various symptoms depending on the location and size of the cysts. Humans have known about echinococcosis for ages. The global burden of echinococcosis is substantial, with over one million people affected at any given time. Cinnamomum cassia is a tropical aromatic evergreen tree of the Lauraceae family, commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is also a traditional spice, widely used around the world. More than ۱۶۰ chemicals have been separated and identified from C. cassia. The main constituent of C. cassia is Cinnamaldehyde. Methods: To evaluate the effect of Cinn on the protoscoleces of E. granulosus, in vitro studies were conducted by exposing defined dilutions of Cinn to protoscoleces. ۱۰۰۰, ۵۰۰, ۲۵۰, and ۱۲۵ µg/ml concentrations of Cinn were used for ۱۰, ۳۰, and ۶۰ minutes. Results: Our results demonstrated that Cinn exhibited strong activity against Protoscoleces of E. granulosus. Cinn exhibited ۱۰۰% inhibition against protoscoleces of E. granulosus at the ۱۰۰۰ and ۵۰۰ µg/ml concentrations after ۱۰ min incubation. Conclusion: Our study highlights the potential of pure Cinn as an effective agent for combating E. granulosus infections. However, Cinn's in vivo efficacy also needs to be evaluated using an animal model with hydatid infection.
