چکیده مقاله:
Patient safety is a global concern due to the irreversible consequences of adverse events. Among the factors influencing the improvement of patient safety, the preparation of medical science students holds significant importance. The operating room, as one of the main hospital units encompassing the critical phase of patient treatment, necessitates strict adherence to patient safety protocols. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the impact of virtual patient safety education on the attitudes and clinical performance of anesthesia technology students.
Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted in ۲۰۲۴ with the participation of ۵۲ anesthesia technology students. Patient safety education was delivered to the intervention group through a ۱۵-minute multimedia podcast. The control group received routine training. Students’ attitude and clinical performance scores were measured before and after the intervention using an adapted questionnaire and a researcher-developed checklist. Data analysis was performed using paired t-tests with SPSS software version ۱۶.
Results: Before the intervention, the mean ± standard deviation scores for attitude and performance were ۴۶.۳۵ ± ۱۱.۱۰ and ۴۴.۵۹ ± ۲۴.۰۱, respectively. After the intervention, these scores increased to ۷۶.۰۹ ± ۹.۹۲ and ۸۸.۷۰ ± ۱۰.۵۳, respectively. Paired t-test results demonstrated a statistically significant difference in both attitude and performance scores before and after the intervention (p < ۰.۰۰۱).
Conclusion: The findings of this study can assist hospital administrators in enhancing the attitudes and performance of anesthesia staff regarding patient safety, fostering a culture of safety, improving the quality of care delivery, and reducing harmful incidents
