چکیده مقاله:

The South Pars gas clusters in Asaluyeh and Kangan constitute one of the largest industrial complexes in the world, but the combination of intensive flaring, sour gas processing, and proximity to densely populated settlements has created significant environmental and health challenges. This study aims to assess the acute chemical exposure risks in these clusters by applying the Chemical Exposure Index (CEI). The methodology involved identifying credible release scenarios for hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and sulfur dioxide (SO₂), calculating airborne quantities under standard screening conditions, and estimating hazard distances based on Emergency Response Planning Guidelines (ERPGs). Results indicate that SO₂ scenarios rapidly reach the CEI cap with ERPG-۲ hazard distances extending up to ۸.۷ km. In comparison, H₂S governs the highest airborne quantities close to the source with ERPG-۲ and ERPG-۳ distances of ۱.۶ km and ۰.۵ km, respectively. The findings highlight the urgency of targeted emergency planning, air-monitoring networks, and land-use management to protect both residents and industrial workers.
