Effects of Soil Permeability and Pile Fixity on Dynamic Behavior of Deep Foundations in Liquefiable Ground: ۳D Numerical Simulation

Soil-pile interaction in a liquefied ground is a complex geotechnical earthquake engineering problem. In this research, a series of three-dimensional numerical analyses were performed to investigate the effects of some parameters on the interaction between liquefied soil and piles. The OpenSeesPL software was employed to aim this purpose. Effects of pile fixity and soil hydraulic conductivity as crucial factors on dynamic soil-pile interaction were investigated. A harmonic sinusoidal load consisting of ۱۵ cycles with frequency of ۳ Hz and peak ground acceleration of ۰.۳g was applied to the models. The results, including pile deformation, acceleration and bending moment, are presented and discussed. The results show that increasing soil permeability from ۶×۱۰^۴ to ۷×۱۰^-۴ m/s, increased the maximum bending in the piles. It was also found that the pile fixity at the end can significantly alter the pile response to the dynamic load. Another finding was that the highest bending moment in the piles occurred at the boundary between the liquefiable layer and the underlying dense layer. The findings of this study would help safe design of deep foundations located in liquefiable ground.
