Formulating a Model of Sustainable Development Strategies in the Construction and Operation of Green Sports Facilities and Infrastructures

The purpose of the present study was to identify strategies for sustainable development in the construction and operation of green sports facilities and infrastructures. The current research was applied in nature and conducted using a qualitative approach based on grounded theory with Glaser's methodology. The statistical population consisted of sports management professors, environmental science experts, managers of national sports federations, managers of sports facilities, and Ph.D. researchers in sports management and environmental studies. The research sample was selected from this population through purposive and snowball sampling methods. The data collection tool was semi-structured interviews conducted with ۱۶ experts in the field. To ensure the validity of the research, participant validation and triangulation methods were used, and the reliability was confirmed through intra-subject agreement with a coefficient of ۸۳%. Data analysis resulted in the extraction of ۷۴ key points, ۱۲ concepts, and ۵ central categories. The main categories of the research included managerial and policy-making factors, sustainable development factors, brand management, green architecture, and supervisory factors. The findings indicated that applying green management principles and reducing environmental impacts are essential in the construction and operation of sports facilities. It is therefore recommended that sports managers and policymakers develop comprehensive programs aligned with sustainable development principles to provide the necessary foundation for the optimal management of green sports facilities.
