Assessment Of The Therapeutic Efficacy Of Avocado Oil (Persea gratissima) On Ovarian And Fallopian Tube Function In Adhesion-Related Infertility

Infertility affects a considerable proportion of couples worldwide, with pelvic adhesions recognized as one of the leading causes through their detrimental effects on ovarian function and fallopian tube patency. The pathological process involves oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis, which compromise folliculogenesis, ovulation, and embryo transport. Natural bioactive compounds such as avocado oil (Persea gratissima), with potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-regenerative properties, may offer novel therapeutic potential in this context. In the present experimental study, adhesion-induced infertility was established in adult female Wistar rats, and the effects of low- and high-dose avocado oil administration were evaluated over four weeks. Functional assessments included estrous cycle monitoring, serum hormone analysis, and histological evaluation of ovarian follicles, while fallopian tube patency and structural integrity were assessed by dye testing and histopathology. Additionally, oxidative stress and inflammatory biomarkers were quantified in reproductive tissues. The findings demonstrated that pelvic adhesions markedly disrupted reproductive function, whereas avocado oil treatment significantly restored estrous cyclicity, normalized gonadotropin and estradiol levels, preserved ovarian follicular architecture, and improved tubal patency. These benefits were accompanied by enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity and reduced oxidative and inflammatory markers, with high-dose treatment exerting superior effects. Collectively, the results highlight avocado oil as a promising natural adjunctive therapy for adhesion-related infertility by targeting key molecular and structural pathways involved in reproductive impairment.
