An overview of the approach to safety management in the aviation industry

The occurrence of numerous accidents and incidents in the aviation industry leads to negative impacts in the economic and social dimensions, therefore, in this industry, the safety management system is one of the most important systems for the survival and continuation of activities in this field. Safety in the aviation industry, as one of the fundamental principles and a guarantor of the continuity of the economic activity of air carriers, has long been of particular interest to air service providers and policymakers. Although the aviation system cannot be free from risks and hazards, the ultimate goal is to avoid serious accidents and incidents in this system. Knowing the important aspects of safety culture is one of the main objectives in identifying and reducing risks, managing risks, and finding solutions to problems before accidents and incidents occur. Considering the importance and sensitivity of the aviation industry, this article examines the culture, philosophy, structure, and elements of the safety management system as an approach to safety management for aviation organizations.
