چکیده مقاله:

This study explores the role of gamification in enhancing motivation and vocabulary retention among intermediate Iranian EFL university students. Drawing on theoretical models of motivation and vocabulary acquisition, the research investigates whether integrating game-based learning tools into language instruction leads to improved engagement and learning outcomes. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving ۶۰ participants divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received gamified vocabulary instruction through platforms such as Kahoot, while the control group received traditional instruction. Pre- and post-tests, including a vocabulary test and a motivation questionnaire, were used to measure changes. The findings revealed that the gamified group showed significantly greater improvement in both vocabulary retention and motivation compared to the control group. These results suggest that gamification can be an effective strategy in EFL contexts, particularly for fostering sustained engagement and deeper learning. The study provides practical implications for language teachers and curriculum developers seeking to integrate game-based techniques into vocabulary instruction.
