چکیده مقاله:

This paper examines the intersection of modern architectural principles—namely functionalism, minimalism, and standardization—and cultural hegemony as theorized by Antonio Gramsci. Public spaces are often seen as neutral grounds for social and cultural exchange; however, architectural design can subtly reinforce dominant ideologies by shaping the ways individuals interact with and perceive these environments. Functionalism, focused on practical utility, can diminish the social and cultural dimensions of space, reducing opportunities for diverse cultural expressions. Minimalism, by prioritizing simplicity and removing decorative elements, may contribute to a homogenized aesthetic that aligns with dominant cultural narratives, potentially suppressing local identity. Standardization further reinforces this by creating uniform spaces that may lack local significance and inadvertently promote a monocultural experience. Through critical analysis and examples, this study highlights how these architectural trends can perpetuate cultural dominance and limit social inclusivity, calling for a reevaluation of modern design principles to foster social awareness and cultural diversity in public spaces.
