New medical applications of regenerative medicine using biomaterials and polymers: A Review

Finding modern and suitable treatments for diseases, especially chronic ones, is one of the most engaging topics that occupies human mind. On the other hand, there are limitations related to organ transplantation that necessitates a pressing need to overcome them, encouraging researchers to conduct extensive studies to find the best alternative methods. In this context, researchers have recognized the advantage of regenerative medicine as a suitable approach. Based on this, the use of stem cells for treating various diseases has been considered in many countries around the world, including Iran, and research centers are actively involved in updating their knowledge of cell therapy. A review of the history of stem cell studies in Iran and worldwide has been conducted. By reading this article, we will gain information about the methods and medical applications of regenerative medicine, stem cells and application of biomaterials and polymers in medicine.
