چکیده مقاله:
This paper presents a comprehensive interdisciplinary analysis of Thermal Energy Storage (TES) and Waste Heat Recovery (WHR) systems for residential applications, with a particular emphasis on their integration within Islamic societies. As global energy demand rises and environmental concerns escalate, sustainable solutions in the built environment are urgently needed. TES and WHR technologies offer significant potential for reducing fossil fuel dependency, optimizing energy use, and supporting decarbonization goals in residential spaces. However, the success of these technologies requires more than technical efficiency—it depends on the alignment of technological, social, ethical, and economic systems.To address this complexity, the study introduces a novel theoretical framework combining Socio-Technical Systems (STS) theory with Circular Economy principles in housing. This framework emphasizes the interconnectedness of technological innovation, policy-making, community engagement, and everyday practices. Moreover, it explores how Islamic Environmental Ethics—through principles such as Khilafah (stewardship), Israf (avoiding waste), and Mizan (balance)—can support culturally appropriate and morally grounded energy transitions in Muslim-majority contexts.Through critical evaluation and case studies from the MENA region, the paper highlights both the opportunities and barriers to implementing TES and WHR technologies in alignment with Islamic values. It also identifies policy mechanisms, public engagement strategies, and ethical considerations that are essential for inclusive and just transitions. Ultimately, the research redefines residential waste as a valuable thermal resource and promotes a vision of housing systems where sustainability, equity, and spiritual responsibility converge.
