Background and Introduction: Due to the nature of the disease, patients with irritable bowel syndrome may experience many physical and mental problems. Such problems include exacerbation of irritable bowel syndrome attacks and increased frequency of hospitalization. The present study was conducted to determine the level of social isolation in patients with irritable bowel syndrome referred to Valiasr Educational and Therapeutic Center in Birjand. Materials and Methods: A descriptive-analytical study was conducted in a cross-sectional manner. ۳۲۰ patients with irritable bowel syndrome referred to the Mani-Valiasr Educational Center in Birjand who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study in ۱۴۰۲. To assess social isolation, t Findings: The results showed that in this study, the mean and standard deviation of the score of the component of friends, acquaintances and family of patients with irritable bowel syndrome in Valiasr Hospital, Birjand were ۱۷.۲۲±۳.۹۸, acquaintances ۵۷, ۱۹.۹۴±۴.۱, and family ۲۰.۳۶±۳.۸۱, respectively. Family with a mean and standard deviation of (۱۹.۹۴±۴.۵۷) had the highest score, and friends with a mean and standard deviation of (۱۷.۲۲±۳.۹۸) had the lowest score compared to other areas of social support. Discussion and Conclusion: Preventing social isolation in patients with irritable bowel syndrome, especially educating the patient's family about further strengthening family support for their patients is effective in preventing social isolation. It is suggested that nurses educate the families of these patients about the subsequent problems resulting from the lack of support and social isolation of patients.
