چکیده مقاله:

This study examines the qualitative zoning of groundwater pollution in the Birjand plain, with a particular emphasis on total dissolved solids (TDS) as a crucial parameter. Utilizing geographic information system (GIS) technology, we mapped and analyzed the spatial distribution of TDS concentrations throughout the area. Data were gathered from ۱۴ groundwater sampling wells, and TDS levels were assessed using standardized methods. The GIS analysis allowed us to identify qualitatively unfavorable areas, correlate them with land use practices, and pinpoint potential pollution sources. The results reveal significant variations in TDS concentrations, particularly in the central and western regions of the aquifer, indicating high levels of pollution that necessitate immediate attention for sustainable water management. This research enhances our understanding of groundwater quality in Birjand and underscores the vital role of GIS in environmental monitoring and assessment.
