This paper explores the development and design principles of nanoscale biosensors for the detection of infectious diseases. Nanoscale biosensors utilize the unique properties of nanomaterials, such as high surface area-to-volume ratios, superior electrical conductivity, and tunable optical characteristics, to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of pathogen detection. Materials like gold and silver nanoparticles, nanowires, carbon nanotubes, and quantum dots are employed for their ability to improve biomolecule immobilization and signal transmission. Particularly, CRISPR/Cas systems have emerged as innovative molecular tools offering unparalleled precision and sensitivity for detecting infectious agents. Additionally, gold nanoparticle and graphene-based biosensors have been developed for multiplexed detection, enabling rapid and accurate point-of-care diagnostics. However, challenges such as sample preparation, matrix effects, and the need for sophisticated data processing pose significant hurdles to the effective clinical use of these sensors. Overcoming these challenges will require ongoing research and development, along with collaboration between academia, industry, and healthcare providers to bring these innovative technologies to market.
