T-waves from the ۲۰۲۲ Kish Island Earthquakes Recorded by a Diver’s Camera: Contributions from Citizen Scientists

The ۲۵ June ۲۰۲۲, ML = ۵.۶ Kish Island earthquake was felt across the Persian Gulfresulting in MMI>V-VI in both northern and southern countries. A roaring signal wasrecorded during the earthquake by divers NE of the Kish Island. In this study, the acousticsignal is modeled as a set of shallow water T-waves using a ray-tracing scheme. The resultsfrom both theory and numerical simulations are in agreement with the phase informationobtained from the recording. This study showcases the outstanding potential of contributionsfrom citizen scientists to the improvement of our understanding of geophysical phenomena.
