Concrete structures, like all materials, are susceptible to natural or anthropogenic degradation and deterioration over time due to their low tensile strength. In the case of structural materials, long-term degradation can lead to micro-cracks that increase permeability and eventually lead to failure. Therefore, it is imperative to rectify the issue to enhance the material's durability and dependability. Concrete structures require regular inspection and repair to ensure that they are in good working condition and have a longer service life. This also allows for early identification of defects. Nonetheless, certain structures possess a challenging maintenance procedure, thereby posing a threat to human life. Hence, self-healing concrete plays a significant role in safeguarding human life by sustaining the structure by self-repairing cracks without external assistance. Additionally, self-healing concrete allows for the improvement of mechanical strength. On the contrary, it is imperative to possess a comprehensive comprehension of the various microbiological techniques employed for self-healing concrete. This research provides a comprehensive overview of microbiological technologies, the limitations of bio-self-healing concrete, and the significant aspects of self-healing concrete based on biotechnology. It provides a comprehensive overview of the self-healing technique which is crucial for comprehensive comprehension.
