چکیده مقاله:

Reinforced concrete columns often need to be reinforced to increase the capacity to withstand the applied load. This research examines the behavior of reinforced concrete columns strengthened by the steel jacket technique. Three variables were considered; Shape of main bracing system (using angle, plates and C-sections), size and number of horizontal braces. The behavior and failure load of reinforced columns were investigated in a laboratory on seven samples, including two non-reinforced samples and five reinforced samples. A finite element model was designed to study the behavior of these columns. The model was verified using laboratory results. This research showed that different reinforcement designs have a major effect on the column capacity. The size of horizontal restraints had a large effect on the failure load for specimens reinforced with angles, while the number of horizontal restraints was more effective for specimens reinforced with C-gutters. Then, using ANSYS ۱۲.۰ finite element program [۱] (FEM), their behavior was analyzed and verified. The test results showed a good agreement between laboratory tests and finite element models.
