The effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy and maritalcommunication training on improvement of sexual satisfaction andmarital satisfaction in women with sexual dysfunction

The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)and marital communication training on improvement of sexual satisfaction and marital satisfactionin women with sexual dysfunction. The research method was semi-experimental with a post-test,pre-test design with a control group. For this purpose, ۴۵ women with sexual dysfunction referredto the psychology clinic were selected in a targeted manner and randomly assigned to three ۱۵-person groups. The groups were evaluated at the beginning and the end of the study in terms ofsexual satisfaction and marital satisfaction. The first experimental group underwent ۸ sessions ofcognitive-behavioral therapy and the second experimental group underwent ۸ sessions of maritalcommunication training, but the control group did not receive any intervention. The data wereanalyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance. The results of analysis of covariance showedthat there is a significant difference among the mean of the post-test scores of the three groups.The results of the follow-up test showed that cognitive-behavioral therapy is more effective onsexual satisfaction and marital communication training is more effective on marital satisfaction.
