چکیده مقاله:
Objective: The endoscopy procedure may cause anxiety. This study aimed to compare the effects of aromatherapy with essential oils of lavender and rose damask on the anxiety of endoscopy patients. Methods: ۱۰۵ subjects were randomly allocated into three groups of aromatherapy with lavender essential oil, aromatherapy with rose damask essential oil and control. Data collection tool was the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI). In each experimental group, subjects inhaled two drops of lavender essential oil and rose damask essential oil. Results: results showed that after the intervention, there was a significant statistical difference in the mean anxiety level of the three groups(P=۰.۰۰۰۱). Also, there was no significant relationship between anxiety level between the two groups of aromatherapy with damask rose and lavender after intervention, whereas the mean score of anxiety in aromatherapy with damask rose was ۳۹.۸۸±۱۱.۵۱ and in aromatherapy with lavender, it was ۴۱.۳۷±۸.۰۴ and showed less anxiety after consuming damask rose than lavender, but this difference was not statistically significant(P=۰.۶۲). Discussion and Conclusion: Our findings confirmed the positive effect of aromatherapy with damask rose and lavender extract on the anxiety of patients before an endoscopy. Since complementary medicine is increasingly encompassing some of the nursing cares, aromatherapy with damask rose and lavender extract can reduce anxiety in patients before an endoscopy and can be applied as a complementary method to alleviate anxiety in patients.
