An improved P-wave coda autocorrelation method is applied to the vertical component ofteleseismic waveforms to retrieve the reflection response of the upper crust in the western Alborzregion of NW Iran. We invert the reflection data through synthetic modeling for P-wave velocitystructure along two seismic transects in the western Alborz and Caspian region. We map the mainlithological interfaces in the upper crust. Our results show how the tectonic processes impact theshallow crustal structure, including the discontinuity between the sedimentary and granitic upper crust,and alter their depths in various tectonic settings. Our findings demonstrate the influence of the mainshear fault zones such as the Manjil and Ipak faults on shallow structures. The extensional structure ofthe Tarom and Shahroud valleys are revealed. Furthermore, our images identify the sedimentarybasins and the thickness of their strata in the Caspian and Buin Zahra regions.
