SEISMIC HAZARD ZONING IN THE CENTRAL IRAN

The assessment of earthquake risk is of high importance. In the present study, earthquake risk isanalyzed for central Iran. An earthquake catalogue including historical and machine recorded eventsfrom February ۱۹۹۰ to October ۲۰۲۲ is also used. After having collected seismic data, the linearrelation between the magnitude of surface and volume waves is determined for the area under study.By applying probability method, seismic parameters and threshold magnitude are determined for thearea. Seismic maps were drawn for ۱۰۰ and ۴۷۵ return periods and also ۰.۵, ۰.۱۵ and ۰.۰۵ periodswith the help of ArcGIS, Crisis and Zmap software. According to the maps, there's a higher seismicrisk in the area from the center to the north of Iran, in cities like Kerman, Shiraz and Yazd, becausethere are some important faults in the area. Thus, any construction work must follow earthquakeengineering principles.
