A review of protocols used for hairy root induction in genus Papaver

Hairy root culture is an attractive method for secondary metabolites production offers a high growth rate in hormone-free media characterized by genetic and biochemical stability. Various important factors affect hairy root induction efficiency via Agrobacterium rhizogenes. Some studies have been done in order to develop reliable strategies improving the transformation efficiency for hairy root induction in Papaver genus. The bacterial strain, type of explant and culture media were among the most important parameters considered. The aim of this review is to give an overview of different strategies used for hairy root induction in some Papaver species and to highlight their notable findings.
